Green Port
A Green Port is a port that invests and encourages in environmentally friendly and sustainable operations in all formats of the ports and maritime industry. Organizations seeking to gain a competitive advantage or improve their environmental capabilities can achieve much more should they apply and responsibly implement sustainable environmental practices.
Our goal is to become the first Green Port in the region by implementing policies and practices that promote sustainable development and reduce the region’s ecological footprint and environmental impact.
Our goal is to implement environmentally friendly approaches in port operations, management and activities, carefully balancing environmental, social and economic factors.
Obtaining the Green Port status is extremely important to confirm that the Port of Baku is environmentally friendly and is sufficiently equipped with modern technologies and infrastructure for efficient use of energy.
The Port of Baku has completed implementation of a number of projects crucial for the development of modern infrastructure and creation of a clean environment, including:
• The Green Port Concept of the Port of Baku was developed;
• The Port of Baku was assisted in obtaining an “EcoPorts” environmental certificate;
• A Road Map and a relevant Work Plan were prepared for the implementation of the Green Port Concept of the Port of Baku;
• Study tours were organized to the member states of the European Union (Netherlands and Belgium) for the staff members of the Port of Baku to familiarize them with the green port practices;
The main goal is to implement a comprehensive quality management system in port facilities by investing in environmentally friendly technologies and sharing knowledge with other ports around the world.
At the same time, the Port of Baku plans to implement strategically important projects that will increase its efficiency and productivity. They are under active development. For example, Solar Panel Installation Project is among the five projects selected from Azerbaijan. The next step is to carry out a feasibility study with experts and in line with the Zero-Emission Strategy 2035, as well as to continue the implementation of the Green Port Policies, developed with EU experts, based on the best practices of EU Green Ports.
